Do you know who your ideal client is, but you’re struggling to get them to follow and engage with you on Instagram? Here are two critical things you need to do to get to your ideal clients on IG.
Before you post another picture on Instagram, take a step back and do your research.
I get it, you just want to dive in and get folks following you. But, you’re probably also overwhelmed with all the different things you could and should be doing. Maybe you’re joining groups and watching videos on what to do, but none of it is working or clicking with you. I know, I’ve been there, done that. The frustration might be because you’re trying to get to a number rather than a person. These two tips will get you connected to your ideal client so that they will follow you and never leave you.
Take a whole day if you have to and do it mindfully because this is an exercise that can be repeated and will become effortless every time you pull up Instagram. If you don’t know already, decide who your ideal audience is and dive really deep because all these little things about your client can lead you to gold mines of information about them. For instance, if you are a health coach and your ideal client is a 34 year old female who is career-focused, single and looking to lose weight, there’s room to dig a lot deeper. What more can you know about her? What are her likes and dislikes? Why does she want to lose weight? What are her hobbies? Where does she go? What is her personality like?
Maybe you realize that she loves to go to brunch with her girlfriends on the weekend, she works out, but it’s more of a social thing, she is always in a rush so she grabs breakfast at the local coffee shop before work almost every day, and she makes good money, but would rather spend it on clothes and travel (and barista-made coffee).
Knowing those details, you can dig deeper on how you can connect with her right on Instagram. You can hashtag search for ladies like her with #girlswhobrunch, or check out the local coffee shop’s IG and see who tags them in morning coffee posts, or check out yoga studios and how they reach clients like yours. This research will also lead you to find out who their influencers are. They could be in your category, but they can also be completely out of your category like a fashion blogger. Follow these influencers, like their photos, engage with their posts. Pay close attention to the kind of photos they take, the kind of captions and hashtags they use and really get to know the kind of Instagram world your audience lives in.
Who of these influencers align most with you? What do you want to offer your ideal client that differentiates you from their current influencers? And, what kind of photos or theme do you want to have? This last one could be something that you either already have/know or you found yourself attracted to some feeds as you were researching.
By doing these two things, you will know your audience and what they do inside this Instagram world which will make it so much easier to reach and connect with them the next time you post.
