When I first started my coaching business journey, I knew I wanted to book clients through Instagram.
Everything in me was telling me that in order for me to be successful in this space, I needed
– Amazing photos
– A better wardrobe
– A really good photo filter
– A daily average of 200 likes, and
– A ton of businesses and influencers liking my stuff and personally inviting me to collaborate with them
Then I freaked out when I realized my reality:
– The only place I knew to shop at was at a mall over an hour away
– I wasn’t even making money to justify a new wardrobe
– I knew NOTHING about photo filters, I had to ask my 20-year-old niece
– I had 300 followers who only liked photos of my son for the last 2 years
– We were in the midst of the holiday season. Being a toddler mom in the middle of the holiday season in a new home meant it was really tough to find time to myself.
How the hell was I going to successfully launch a business in the shape that I was in on Instagram? My feed shouted “I’m a mom” but I certainly wasn’t going into Mom Blogging or selling Baby Products.
I figure you might be in a similar boat right now. That is why I am sharing these 3 Major Tips To Stand Out On Instagram even if you feel like your odds are stacked against you as I did back then.
The truth is that we are humans. We are not these super, put-together influencers who have stylists picking out their clothes, photographers taking every photo, and Social Media or PR managers who are writing, planning and editing each post. You are you and that’s exactly what people want to see.
Which brings me to my next tip.
Don’t do what I did and make every post about someone else. Yes, seeing my son grow up was nice for family. But, by doing that, I was actually hiding away from the WORLD. That didn’t help me stand out. And, it won’t help you stand out either.
Also, pro-tip, while using stock images of cool-looking desks, coffee shops, and really pretty vacation spots is easy and looks cute on your feed, no one “cares” for that. They “care” for you and who you are. You are what makes your post memorable and like-worthy.
In short: Post photos of yourself, doing stuff you love like feelin’ yourself on a good hair day, working out or taking a walk on a beautiful day.
The awful truth is that Instagram is getting harder and harder to get ahead in because the algorithm keeps changing, people are getting shadow banned for all sorts of things like using bots, and hashtags are so confusing now.
The most current trick of the digital trade is to show up in stories more often.
OK so how do you effectively show up in stories? Give people a Call-to-Action, be vulnerable, don’t do too many stories in a 24 hour period, and respond to every direct message that comes from a story.
Which one of these tips do you feel will be the hardest? Comment to let me know.
